review by: Becky from California I've enjoyed every episode of the Serial Experiments Lain series. When I saw the first episode I was instantly hooked. I knew I'd have to buy the whole series. I watched Layer 10 and wondered how they could wrap up the series in just 3 more episodes. When I watched the last 3 episodes I really liked all the backround music that was in it, there was a lot more than usual. I was overjoyed while watching it! (I usually get like that when I'm watching the final episodes of anime series §^.^§) The end was great, I couldn't be happier with it. I still have a lot of questions about the series and some parts confuse the heck out of me, but the series really leaves you satisfied. If you're an anime fan and like weird, eerie stuff (plus great animation!) then I highly recommend Serial Experiments Lain!

Reviewer: David H from U.S.A. Simply Stunning! Serial Experiments Lain is definitely one of my favorite anime series to watch. It has a very complex storyline and the combination of computer graphics and hand animation looks fantastic on DVD. Lain: Reset is the conclusion of this series (Sob...) and I would like to see more Lain. However, this is one series that you will probably like to see several times because every time I watch Lain again, I see something new I didn't understand before. It's like, you find an answer to a question, yet there are more questions. In conclusion, What is Lain? Watch and see!

Reviewer: origami_man from Mexico So. Is this the end? I hope not. In this DVD you will see the final chapter of the series but you will feel the need for more. Are we real because everybody remember us? Or is the memory a greater thing that we think. Lain has tampered with reality unwillingly and must come to terms with her responsability on all that happened while coming to terms with the question she cannot answer. Who am i? I really hope many people see and enjoy this movie so the people on the studios discover that we can see an intelligent anime without giant robots and girls in transparent clothing (not that they are bad, but i was getting tired of always the same formula)

Reviewer: hillebrandboorsma from Netherlands. It got me hooked up - Now I'll have to see the rest. Though not being an experienced Manga viewer I was attracted to Lain by the reviews it got on the Amazon site. And I was not disappointed: the first 4 episodes took of slow but kept my attention right to the end. What I found remarkable in the design of the series is that Lain is not showing much of its Japanese origin. This shows up the most in the more grown-up characters who look more European than Asian.
The animation is quite simple for major parts - Just panning and zooming. But the tension of the story and remains, showing the quality of the sheer story line.
From a more psychological/filosophical point of view the buildup is strong, situations and characters are recognisable. Questions about identity, reality and man-machine relationships arise at in very intriguing way.
This series is not everyones buisiness though- my roommate ran out after viewing it for 5 minutes. But I would recommend it strongly for people with an open mind for X-files/Anime/Cyberpunk stuff.

Reviewer: Matthew Barrett from Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, USA. Slow beginning but this volume picks up quickly. With with Layer:11 almost all clips from the previous ten layers, I was sort of wary of watching the rest of the DVD. But in tradition, Lain surprised me with two and half layers of first-rate story telling. Like LAIN: DEUS, the story is X-Files style but highly original and creative. The animation here come close to the gripping marvel AKIRA in its most intense scenes. Watching the finale of LAIN would make anyone want to watch the entire series over again to fill in the gaps they experienced the first time they watched it. Highly recommended anime masterpiece! If you like The X-Files you are bound to like Lain: Navi, Knights, Deus, and Reset. Enjoy!

Reviewer: A viewer from Johnson City, Tennessee. Surreal, compelling, and intelligent! This is without a doubt the best anime series released in years! I was hooked from the surreal opening images of the first episode to the final haunting scene, thirteen episodes later. The exploration of themes such as identity and duality are handled skillfully and rendered beautifully, Pioneer did a great job on these discs! The closest comparison to it I can make is maybe Ghost in the Shell or the works of David Cronenberg. This is as good as anime gets! Learn it, love it, live it! Close the World.
